A little more info - It's the same item (URL), but with different title and description. The later duplicate was from info supplied in for/scripting by Michela and part of the River.

No big deal, but an end run around your duplicate posting filter.

Please read the NewsJunk page before posting. We now have exact duplicates of the scholar tracing anti-Obama email and a one-step removed version of the Hagel story (from Political Wire) all within the last 15 posts. The second Hagel post references the Bloomberg story that I posted this morning. Better the original than a blog about the original.

Skip USA Today altogether, and just create an item for the survey site. You can click on the Post command at the top of the page to start a new post that doesn't come from the river.

So I've noticed that sometimes a story will come up that I think interesting, and that I want to post to newsjunk, but if I click on the link the story is literally only a line long. for example, the USA today story about obama taking a slight lead in ohio links to a mostly blank page with one line: "A new SurveyUSA poll in Ohio finds Sen. Barack Obama edging Sen. John McCain in a presidential match up, 48% to 46%."

It's news I would consider worthy posting to newsjunk, but how do we feel about changing the links so users don't find themselves reading the same one-liner they first read on newsjunk? So instead of going to USA today it would go to the actual survey results here - http://www.surveyusa.com/cl...

I just deleted a reference to Political Wire that COPIED THE WHOLE BODY OF THEIR POST. This is not cool. Policital Wire is a direct competitor of NewsJunk. If you're going to quote them, take one sentence at most. It's hard to do that's why we rarely do it. Please be more careful about this. Thanks.

NYD, it works the way I want it to. Internally there's a table that maps channeltitles to their short version, to get them down to 15 chars, and to have consistency (the AP has dozens of different titles as does the NY TImes, many do). So -- don't try to circumvent it, consistency is good. BTW, thanks for embracing this so enthusiastically!

Tried to edit "John McCain" to "John McCain Report Blog" and it stayed the same through 2 rebuild cycles (would not build for me manually, too close to cycle when I tried). Going into edit mode shows the corrected text. Maybe I don't understand the build cycles, or maybe it doesn't work the way it should?

When a story is submitted through http://submit.newsjunk.com/, you and I get an email with a synopsis and a link to the page where you can approve the post.

Now you don't have to go looking for stuff to approve.

You should have just gotten one with a test post about Rasmussen. Go ahead and approve it if you haven't already done so.

It's not URL-based, it's based on the record in aggregatorData.root, which is the database that contains almost everything for this application. When I click the post button that effectively marks the record in the database as having been published, and links it to the record for the published item. If you click on the post button after I do, it knows it's already been published and presents you the edited version. I can send you a snapshot of aggregatorData.root, it can be viewed and edited and programmed in the OPML Editor. Let me know if you want a copy.

The system stabilized so well that I added back the automatic every-10-minute scan 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55 past the hour.

It's coordinated with the Build command, so you can still have an extra build if you want as long as it doesn't interfere with the already-scheduled one.

There was some issue with the scheduling of builds and they were stacking up. So I made it manual.

Note the new "Build" command in the menu. When you want fresh news click on it. The build will take a couple of minutes at most. If you click it twice it will scold you, no more than one build every 5 minutes.
